Fanfold needs an external media path. The stack sits behind or beneath the printer and feeds through the rear or bottom slot. Some desktop printers are internal-roll only and cannot take fanfold at all.
Direct thermal — no ribbon. The printhead darkens the heat-sensitive facestock directly. Printed images fade with heat, sunlight and abrasion, so these suit shipping and short-life applications rather than asset tags.

Check three things before you order
Fanfold stack, not a roll
These ship as a folded stack rather than a roll, so there is no core and nothing to mount on a spindle. The stack sits behind or beneath the printer and feeds in through the rear or bottom media slot — check your printer has an external media path before ordering, as some desktop printers are internal-roll only.

Label width
The label must be equal to or narrower than your printer’s maximum print width — a 4" printer will not feed a 4.5" label. If you are printing thermal transfer, your ribbon also needs to be at least as wide as the label.

These are direct thermal labels. The printhead darkens the heat-sensitive facestock directly, so there is no ribbon to buy and nothing to load — if you put these in a thermal transfer setup with a ribbon fitted, you will get faint or doubled print.
