The TD-4D models are direct thermal only and take no ribbon at all; the TD-4T chassis is thermal transfer and uses a 300 m ribbon on a 1" core, ink-out only. The TJ industrial range takes 1"–3" cores on the TJ-4000 but 1.5" and 3" only on the TJ-4400. Brother media is outside wound throughout.
