Brother TJ-4121TN Ribbons & Labels
IndustrialTJ-4000 / TJ-4100 Industrial
The Brother TJ-4121TN is an industrial thermal transfer and direct thermal printer, one of 5 models in the TJ-4000 / TJ-4100 Industrial range. Media loads as rolls up to 8" in diameter on cores of 1" / 1.5" / 3", and fanfold stacks are supported too. Ribbons run up to 1,476 ft, 4.33" wide, on a 1" core. It prints up to 4.16" wide and takes media up to 4.72". That is a narrower head than the 4.21" the rest of the TJ-4000 / TJ-4100 Industrial range carries, the usual sign of a higher-resolution print head. Check the wind direction before ordering: this printer needs rolls wound face out.

Brother TJ-4121TN — Frequently Asked Questions
What printing method does the Brother TJ-4121TN use?
The Brother TJ-4121TN does both. In thermal transfer mode it prints through a ribbon for durable, long-life labels; in direct thermal mode it prints straight onto heat-sensitive stock with no ribbon at all, which is how most shipping labels are produced.
Which thermal transfer ribbons fit the Brother TJ-4121TN?
The Brother TJ-4121TN takes thermal transfer ribbons up to 4.33" wide, up to 1,476 ft (450 m) long, on a 1" core, wound either coated side in or out. Wax suits coated paper labels, wax-resin handles synthetics and heavier handling, and full resin is the choice for chemical, solvent and outdoor exposure.
Which label sizes can the Brother TJ-4121TN print?
The Brother TJ-4121TN accepts media up to 4.72" wide, with a maximum print width of 4.16". Any narrower label will run as well, so long as the roll core and outside diameter also fit the media bay — width alone is not enough.
Which roll cores and diameters suit the Brother TJ-4121TN?
The Brother TJ-4121TN takes rolls on 1" / 1.5" / 3" cores, with a maximum roll diameter of 8". A roll on a larger core will not seat on the spindle, and one over the diameter limit will not let the cover close.
Does roll wind direction matter on the Brother TJ-4121TN?
Yes, and it is the constraint most often missed. The Brother TJ-4121TN requires rolls wound face out (labels on the outside of the roll). Most stock rolls are wound face out, so a face-in printer needs media ordered specifically — the roll will physically load either way but will not print.
Can the Brother TJ-4121TN print 4" × 6" shipping labels?
Yes — 4" × 6" sits inside this printer's media width, and it prints them as direct thermal with no ribbon, which is the standard setup for courier and marketplace labels.
Can the Brother TJ-4121TN use fanfold labels?
Yes. The Brother TJ-4121TN accepts fan-folded stacks as well as rolls. A fanfold box holds far more labels than a roll of equivalent footprint, so it is the cheaper way to run high volume — the trade-off is bench space behind the printer.
Does the Brother TJ-4121TN take 3-inch core rolls?
Yes — 3" cores are the industrial standard and the Brother TJ-4121TN is built for them, which is what lets it hold the large-diameter rolls that keep reload stops down.
Where can I buy labels and ribbons for the Brother TJ-4121TN in Canada?
Vantage Labels stocks blank thermal labels and printer ribbons that fit the Brother TJ-4121TN, shipped from Canadian stock. Everything listed on this page has been checked against the printer's published media specifications — width, core, roll diameter and ribbon format — rather than matched on the printer's name.

What won’t fit the Brother TJ-4121TN
We check every product against this printer’s published limits, so it’s worth knowing what we deliberately don’t recommend for it — these are the mistakes that cost a return.
Wrong ribbon configuration (core size / ink side) for this printer.
For example: 4.33″ x 243ft Wax Ribbon (Eltron, 36 Ribbons / Case); 4.17″ x 1969ft Wax-Resin Ribbon (Tec, 12 Ribbons / Case); 4.33″ x 299ft Wax Ribbon (Eltron, 36 Ribbons / Case) and 3 more.
Ribbon is 5.12" wide; this printer takes up to 4.33".
For example: 5.12″ x 1476ft Wax Ribbon (Zebra, 12 Ribbons / Case); 5.98″ x 1476ft Wax Ribbon (Zebra, 12 Ribbons / Case); 6.50″ x 1476ft Wax Ribbon (Zebra, 12 Ribbons / Case).
Roll is wound in; this printer needs face-out media.
For example: 4″ x 6″ Thermal Transfer Wound In (1000 Labels / Roll, 4 Rolls / Case).
