Industrial

M84Pro Series

The SATO M84Pro-2 is an industrial thermal transfer and direct thermal printer, one of 4 models in the M84Pro Series range. It prints up to 4.1" wide and takes media up to 5". Media loads as rolls up to 8.6" in diameter on cores of 3", and fanfold stacks are supported too. Ribbons run up to 1,475 ft, 4.4" wide, on a 1" core. They must be wound coated side in. Check the wind direction before ordering: this printer needs rolls wound face in.

SATO M84Pro-2 — Frequently Asked Questions

Is the SATO M84Pro-2 direct thermal or thermal transfer?

The SATO M84Pro-2 does both. In thermal transfer mode it prints through a ribbon for durable, long-life labels; in direct thermal mode it prints straight onto heat-sensitive stock with no ribbon at all, which is how most shipping labels are produced.

What size ribbon does the SATO M84Pro-2 use?

The SATO M84Pro-2 takes thermal transfer ribbons up to 4.4" wide, up to 1,475 ft (450 m) long, on a 1" core, wound coated side in (CSI). Wax suits coated paper labels, wax-resin handles synthetics and heavier handling, and full resin is the choice for chemical, solvent and outdoor exposure.

What label sizes fit the SATO M84Pro-2?

The SATO M84Pro-2 accepts media up to 5" wide, with a maximum print width of 4.1". Any narrower label will run as well, so long as the roll core and outside diameter also fit the media bay — width alone is not enough.

What roll core size does the SATO M84Pro-2 take?

The SATO M84Pro-2 takes rolls on 3" cores, with a maximum roll diameter of 8.6". A roll on a larger core will not seat on the spindle, and one over the diameter limit will not let the cover close.

Does roll wind direction matter on the SATO M84Pro-2?

Yes, and it is the constraint most often missed. The SATO M84Pro-2 requires rolls wound face in (labels on the inside of the roll). Most stock rolls are wound face out, so a face-in printer needs media ordered specifically — the roll will physically load either way but will not print.

Why won't my label roll fit the SATO M84Pro-2?

Three things stop a roll loading in this printer: the roll is over 8.6" in diameter; the core is not 3"; the roll is wound face out instead of face in. Label width is usually the first thing people check and the least likely culprit — core size is the common one.

Can the SATO M84Pro-2 print on synthetic or outdoor labels?

Yes. Because the SATO M84Pro-2 prints thermal transfer, it can image polypropylene, polyester and other synthetic facestocks that direct thermal printers cannot mark. Pair them with a wax-resin or full resin ribbon; wax will not anchor properly to a synthetic surface.

Can the SATO M84Pro-2 print 4" × 6" shipping labels?

Yes — 4" × 6" sits inside this printer's media width, and it prints them as direct thermal with no ribbon, which is the standard setup for courier and marketplace labels.

Where can I buy labels and ribbons for the SATO M84Pro-2 in Canada?

Vantage Labels stocks blank thermal labels and printer ribbons that fit the SATO M84Pro-2, shipped from Canadian stock.
