SATO FX3-LX Labels & Ribbons
DesktopFX3-LX / GY412
The SATO FX3-LX is a desktop direct thermal printer, the narrowest print head in the FX3-LX / GY412 range. Media loads as rolls up to 4.13" in diameter on cores of 1" / 1.5", and fanfold stacks are supported too. There is no ribbon to buy — the FX3-LX prints straight onto heat-sensitive direct thermal labels. It prints up to 3" wide and takes media up to 3.23". That is a narrower head than the 4.09" the rest of the FX3-LX / GY412 range carries, the usual sign of a higher-resolution print head.

SATO FX3-LX — Frequently Asked Questions
What printing method does the SATO FX3-LX use?
The SATO FX3-LX is direct thermal only. It applies heat directly to heat-sensitive label stock, so labels are the single consumable — there is no ribbon to buy or replace.
What ribbon does the SATO FX3-LX use?
None. The SATO FX3-LX is a direct thermal printer, so there is no ribbon — it images heat-sensitive labels directly. If print on your labels fades in heat or sunlight, that is the direct thermal stock behaving normally, not a printer fault.
Which label sizes can the SATO FX3-LX print?
The SATO FX3-LX accepts media up to 3.23" wide, with a maximum print width of 3". Any narrower label will run as well, so long as the roll core and outside diameter also fit the media bay — width alone is not enough.
Which roll cores and diameters suit the SATO FX3-LX?
The SATO FX3-LX takes rolls on 1" / 1.5" cores, with a maximum roll diameter of 4.13". A roll on a larger core will not seat on the spindle, and one over the diameter limit will not let the cover close.
Can the SATO FX3-LX use fanfold labels?
Yes. The SATO FX3-LX accepts fan-folded stacks as well as rolls. A fanfold box holds far more labels than a roll of equivalent footprint, so it is the cheaper way to run high volume — the trade-off is bench space behind the printer.
Does the SATO FX3-LX take 3-inch core rolls?
No. The SATO FX3-LX takes 1" / 1.5" cores. A 3" core roll — the usual industrial format — will not fit its spindle, so check the core before ordering, not just the label size.
Why won't my label roll fit the SATO FX3-LX?
Three things stop a roll loading in this printer: the roll is over 4.13" in diameter; the core is not 1" / 1.5". Label width is usually the first thing people check and the least likely culprit — core size is the common one.
Where can I buy labels for the SATO FX3-LX in Canada?
Vantage Labels stocks blank thermal labels that fit the SATO FX3-LX, shipped from Canadian stock. Everything listed on this page has been checked against the printer's published media specifications — width, core, roll diameter and ribbon format — rather than matched on the printer's name.
